Virtual Box Kernel Error

After installing Sun Microsystems Virtual Box and Ubuntu Server 8.0.1 and you get a kernel error like this:

... don't panic, just go into your virtual server settings (General > Advanced Tab) and enable the Physical Address Extension (PAE) of the host CPU.

Ubuntu server should start-up normally after that.

Host Virtual Server RAM Upgraded to 4GB

Since we decided to test the cluster technology of MySQL on a Virtual Box, we've upgraded the DDR2 RAM from 1GB to 4GB on our test server. That only involved a total investment cost of RM320 as opposed to RM2,000 initially budgeted for this R&D project. Saweet!

Hardware Purchase for MySQL Cluster R&D

Shah has itemized the hardware required to start our MySQL cluster R&D. You can read it here. Can't wait to get things going as we've planned for this for a few months already. This blog will detail out the settings we use to achieve clustering and redundancy. The database we'll use to test the cluster will be an internal one which consists of over 20,000 records generated per day. The webapp which is based on Apache and PHP on one side and Filemaker Pro 9 on the other, will reside on a separate server.
